Some of you might have seen some postings about it on our twitter (@whiskygingerxo). Well, there was a lot of talk about what to actually do with it. One idea was to fit a later model tv, one of the tube 1990s tv with rca jacks into this Zenith shell. Another was to turn it into a fish tank. But then it hit us… why not turn it into a bar. So we built custom shelf rafters for the bottles to rest on. Installed electric lighting across the top to illuminate the bottles in the dark (really adding life to any party!). Just to add to the fun factor, we’re going to be installing an iPod/iPhone hookup so it can play your favorite tunes. Playing out of the original speaker locations too! </p> <p>We’re pretty excited about this and hope you are too! Keep your eyes peeled for more items like this in the near future (with alterations!). As great as it is leaving the non-working ones “as-is” for decoration, we decided to be a little creative with this one and turn it into an actual working electric lamp/lantern for the home.</p> <p>After some brainstorming, it was obvious the lantern needed to be taken apart in some areas. The primary focus was how to install the electrical in a clean and simple way. Maintaining the aesthetics. Once that was figured out, it was as if a bright light bulb turned on over our heads (no punt intended).</p> <p>The now, electric lantern can hang from its handle or rest on a table top. The wiring is made so it can easily adjust when hung. The best part, it now plugs right into the wall! Although, an energy efficient bulb was used, to change the light bulb you would simply pull the glass portion out by turning the lantern lever. This pops the glass out and gains you access to the light socket. We found a small old dresser at a thrift store in Michigan last time we were there.  We used that for one side of the desk.  For the other side, we used some old metal legs we found. They are the the perfect color of rust.  A green patina look, that only comes with age.  Stripping the dresser down from it’s original white color turned out to be a lot harder than we imagined.  It was a great learning experience.  The light color wood that turned up after the paint was stripped away, we covered up with a darker stain.  Dan and I worked really hard on making it perfect.  I love the way it turned out.</p> <p>We also added lots of new items to <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/whiskyginger?ref=si_shop" target="_blank">the shop</a>.  Head over and check it out.
